The decades-old conflict between the two countries over Nagorno-Karabakh has killed 99 troops in the latest battle. Armenia said it lost 49 soldiers were killed and Azerbaijan said it lost 50.
Since 1994 Nagorno-Karabakh has been under the control of Armenian forces after the separatist war ended. But the area belongs to Azerbaijan.
The battle erupted between the two countries minutes after 12 PM on Tuesday with Azerbaijani powers releasing a mounted guns blast and robot assaults in many segments of the Armenian area, as per Armenia’s Defense Ministry. It said shelling became less severe during the day however Azerbaijani soldiers were attempting to progress into An Armenian area.

On the other side, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said it was answering an “enormous scope incitement” by Armenia late Monday and early Tuesday. It said Armenian soldiers established mines and terminated Azerbaijani military positions.
Azerbaijan recovered wide areas of Nagorno-Karabakh in a six-week battle in 2020 that killed at least 6,600 individuals and finished with a Russia-expedited peace deal.
International Community Urges Peace
Moscow deployed about 2,000 troops under the peace deal. Moscow is engaged in a delicate balancing act with both the ex-Soviet nations. It has strong economic and security ties (hosts a Russian military base) with Armenia and close cooperation with oil-rich Azerbaijan.
Russia:
On Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry urged both parties –
to refrain from further escalation and show restraint.
United Nations:
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged Armenia and Azerbaijan
to take immediate steps to deescalate tensions, exercise maximum restraint and resolve any outstanding issues through dialogue
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed support for Aliyev.
