A search on India’s IP Online service uncovered a trademark application filing from Bajaj bearing the “Bajaj Vector” name under Class 12 for Automobiles, Land Vehicles, Motorcycles, and Electric Vehicles.
Bajaj has enjoyed notable success in the global market ever since partnering up with KTM 390 and Husqvarna’s 401 series in 2007. Since then, the Indian company has been entrusted with developing more models, including an electric scooter platform under the Husqvarna brand, the Vektorr. A recent development could breathe new life into this electric scooter.
Is Bajaj Automobiles working on a new electric scooter called the Bajaj Vector?
Recent trademark filings from Bajaj suggest the same. To remember, Bajaj partnered with KTM in the year 2007 and introduced KTM’s 390 and Husqvarna’s 401 series which enjoyed notable success in the global market. An electric scooter platform under the Husqvarna brand called the Vektorr is also a part of the success. This encouraged Bajaj Automobiles to develop more electric vehicles under the brand name “Bajaj Vector”.
In 2021, the concept of Husky Vektorr came to limelight for the first time. A recent development has pumped new life into this electric scooter concept.
A trademark filing from Bajaj Automobiles bearing the name “Vector” has been registered. Indeed, a trademark application for “Bajaj Vector” appeared, under Class 12 for Automobiles, Land Vehicles, Motorcycles, and Electric Vehicles. According to this filing, the trademark was applied for on August 16, 2023.
What exactly is the Bajaj Vector?
This is a new electric scooter, whether or not it’s the Husqvarna Vektorr, might be renamed under Bajaj branding, remains a mystery.
At the moment, Bajaj already has an electric scooter called the Chetak and has been selling it for quite some time now.
The launch of a more premium electric scooter will not only add to the growing selection of electric 2 wheelers in the market but also elevate Bajaj’s status as a pioneer in the EV two-wheeler market.
Presently, Bajaj has been left behind by newer players in the game such as Ather and Ola Electric, and the launch of a premium electric scooter could certainly change that.
There’s been a growing demand for lightweight electric motorcycles and scooters across Asia and Europe, and lots of mainstream manufacturers have been capitalizing on this in recent years.
As such, there’s no reason to doubt that Bajaj is working on a new electric scooter. A prototype of a new e-scooter had been spotted testing on multiple occasions in the past.
Also, there is a possibility that Bajaj is simply safeguarding the name “Vector” for future use, and might not roll out a new model under that name anytime soon.
