“Billions of dollars would start flowing into the US.” This is the claim made by US President Donald Trump made immediately after new tariffs came into force.
Trump, through his social media account stated –

White House new tax rates came into force on Thursday midnight. Named as “Reciprocal tariffs”, Donald trump announced new tariff rates ranging from 10% to 41% on imports affecting many countries. This step from Donald Trump has definitely accelerated trade war between the countries.
Earlier Trump claimed that the world had looted the U.S for decades and therefore there is a need to reciprocate with high tariffs. Initially, Trump set April 2, 2025 for the new raft for taxes and also called that date as “Liberation Day”. But paused the new tariff’s for 90 days. A gain a 4-week truce was announced on July 7, 2025. Finally, the deadline expired on August 1, 2025. New set of tariffs came into force last midnight.
