A super rare conception dubbed ‘one-in-a-million’ happened when a 19-year-old teenager from Brazil gave birth to twins from two different fathers.
The young mom who hails from Minerios in Goias stunned the doctors after giving birth to twins from two different fathers. Scientifically, it is named heteroparental superfecundation. The phenomenon is extremely rare as though it is not entirely impossible.
Adding to the surprise element, both babies look very similar despite being conceived by two different men and are born in a single delivery.
Going into the details, a 19-year-old teenager had sex with two men on the same day. After 9 months, she gave birth to twins. Having doubts over who the twin’s fathers, she took a paternity test. her suspicion was confirmed when a DNA test report came out. The DNA examination suggested positive for two babies two fathers. Later she said:
I remembered that I had had sex with another man and called him to take the test, which was positive. I was surprised by the results. I didn’t know this could happen and the babies are very similar.
The women’s physician, Dr Tulio Jorge Franco said –
It is possible to happen when two eggs from the same mother are fertilized by different men. The babies share the mother’s genetic material, but they grow in different placentas,
The babies are now 16 months old and one of the fathers is taking care of both babies. As per the norms in Brazil, the birth certificate of the twins will have only one name as their father.
According to medical experts, there are only 20 other heteroparental superfecundation cases in the world.
