Houthi Rebels And Yemin Forces Clash Again

Fierce fighting broke in the south of Marib between Yemini government forces and Houthi rebels. More than 130 fighters got killed in this fight.

Yemen has been convulsed by civil war since 2014. Iran-backed Houthis and a Saudi-led coalition backed by the US are in fierce fighting.

It is believed that the latest clashes are because of the meeting between US President’s national security advisor Jake Sullivan and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

The US is trying to bring peace in the region as Iran-backed Houthis captured the capital of Sanaa and much of the country’s north, forcing President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and his government to flee to the south, then to Saudi Arabia.

The rebels renewed their attacks on Marib earlier this year. Thousands of displaced Yemenis are taking hostage in this city. Despite years of attempts by the Houthis, they could not take full control of Marib, especially in the northern half of the country due to stiff resistance by the government defenses.

All these years, the rebels used to attack with waves of fighters. These attacks were countered with warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition. Houthi media office said the Saudi-led coalition launched more than 30 airstrikes on their fighters around Marib on Monday.

keeping all these aside, the war has deteriorated largely and spawned the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. During the corona pandemic too, the years-long war has not stopped and the clashes continued to claim lives.
