India Face Consecutive 2nd Defeat In ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021

India continued its humiliating performance in ICC T20 World Cup 2021. After losing its rival Pakistan, India lost to New Zealand on Sunday.

In Group 2, Pakistan and New Zealand outplayed India in all terms. India lost to Pakistan by 10 wickets in its first match. And yesterday, India lost to New Zealand by 8 wickets.

In order to stay in the tournament with slim chances, India must win all the remaining three matches to be played. Also, India needs to pace up its run rate in those wins.

Batting first, India posted a very low total of 110 by losing its 7 wickets. The highest partnership was 24 runs and the highest individual score by an Indian batsman (Ravindra Jadeja) was 26 runs. Wickets fell at regular intervals and the entire Indian team scored a mere total of 110 runs in its allotted 20 overs.

New Zealand bowlers Trent Boult picked 3 wickets in his spell of 4 overs. Ish Sodhi claimed 2 wickets while Adam Milne and Tim Southee took a wicket each.

Coming to the New Zealand scoreboard, Openers Martin Guptill (2 runs) and Daryl Mitchell (49 runs) laid a strong base for their team’s win. Kane Williamson finished the chase with his 33 runs knock. Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah is the only bowler to take 2 wickets in his complete spell of 4 overs. No other Indian bowler could restrict the New Zealand batsman from scoring.

Indian Captain Virat Kohli stated that toss was a key factor that helped Indian loss. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first. Trent Boult’s bowling (3-20) had a major impact on New Zealand’s comprehensive win.

The 2021 T20 World Cup may witness an early exit of the Indian team as the chances of making it to the Semi-finals are very slim as of now.

In Group 1, England tops the points table with 6 points after playing 3 matches while South Africa has 4 points followed by Australia (4 points), Sri Lanka (2 points), and West Indies (2 points). Like India, Bangladesh has lost all its 3 matches played and stood at the last with 0 points.

In Group 2, Pakistan tops the table with 6 points in its 3 matches followed by Afghanistan (4 points), New Zealand (2 points), Namibia (2 points). India and Scotland lost all their matches played and have no points after playing 2 matches.
