On Monday, Israel warplanes have unleashed heavy airstrikes at several locations of Gaza City reaching the death toll of 200.

Some of the reports suggest that at least 188 Palestinians have been killed (including 55 children and 33 women) and 1,230 people are wounded in Gaza Strip. But the Gaza Health Ministry said that 10 women and 8 children were among the 26 people killed on Sunday alone while 50 people got wounded.

In these airstrikes, Israel claimed that one of the Islamic Jihad militant group top commander Harbeed got killed. The Israeli military said

Harbeed was behind several anti-tank missile terror attacks against Israeli civilians.

The military further stated that

those attacks included one on the first day of the current round of fighting that it said had injured a civilian in Israel. Harbeed had been a commander with Islamic Jihad for 15 years,

Israeli airstrikes enter the second week. As per the reports, Israel bombed underground tunnels which are used by Hamas and Palestinian militants. Around 15 kilometres (nine miles) of militant tunnels and the homes of nine alleged Hamas commanders were destroyed in the wave of heavy airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.

Israel’s military said Gaza militants had fired about 60 rockets towards Israeli cities overnight, down from 120 and 200 the two previous nights.

On the other hand, the International community has urged Israel to maintain restrain. China urges the US to play a constructive role in Gaza diplomacy.

On Sunday, the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken has discussed the situation in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza with the Qatari, Egyptian and Saudi foreign ministers.

Pope Francis has denounced the unacceptable spiral of violence between Israel and the Palestinians and prayed for peace, calm and international help. The pope said

I ask myself: this hatred and vendetta, what will it bring? Do we truly think that we can build peace by destroying the other?

However, Israel Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has defended the attacks on the Gaza tower housing the Associated Press and Al Jazeera bureaus.
