ISRO’s Humanoid ‘Vyom Mitra’ Ready For Gaganyaan Mission

ISRO has facelifted its Robot, a prototype of the humanoid for testing purposes ahead of human spaceflight in the near future.

In Bengaluru, on Wednesday, 22nd of January 2020, ISRO unveiled the prototype of the humanoid which answered the astronauts. She answered –

I can monitor few module parameters and alert you, and perform life support operations. I can be your companion, recognise the astronauts and respond to their queries,

Vyom Mitra came in front of the reporters and media waving its robotic hand and answered the queries haltingly. She described her abilities to respond to the situations and performing operations. The humanoid was designed in the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) at Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala.

Vyom Mitra is scheduled to enter into space later this year or next year. But this ride will be before the Gaganyaan programme. Gaganyaan, according to the ISRO scientists will be a journey into space and back to the earth without losing Control and command facility.

The Indian Space Agency has also announced that four men were selected for the Gaganyaan mission. They were picked for the mission among Air Force pilots. As per ISRO’s sources, they will be given training for the accomplishment of the mission. They are being trained in India and Russia apart from France where these pilots will be trained for tackling the life support and related systems in the Space.

India aims to set up a Space Station for a continuous human presence in the space. ISRO chairman, Dr. K Sivan has announced the same officially during the humanoid facelift.

Apart from the Gaganyaan Mission, ISRO also displayed the new modified GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle) which will hold the orange capsule that can carry 3 crew members during the second half of 2021 or maybe in the first half of the 2022 year.
