Japan’s Ex PM Shinzo Abe Was Shot, Condition Unknown

Japan’s former prime minister Shinzo Abe was shot at a campaign event in the Nara region at around 11:30 AM. The official sources have confirmed the attack. His health condition is unknown presently.

The Japanese government stated :

former prime minister Shinzo Abe had been shot in the western region of Nara.

Japan’s chief cabinet secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told reporters-

Former prime minister Abe was shot at around 11:30 am in Nara. One man, believed to be the shooter, has been taken into custody. The condition of former prime minister Abe is currently unknown,

The US ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel, in a statement said –

We are all saddened and shocked by the shooting of former prime minister Abe Shinzo. Abe-san has been an outstanding leader of Japan and unwavering ally of the United States. The US Government and American people are praying for the well-being of Abe-san, his family, and people of Japan.

Shinzo Abe was delivering a stump speech on Friday at an event ahead of Sunday’s upper house elections when he was attacked. Soon after the attack, Mr. Abe was rushed to hospital. The hospital sources, about  Abe’s condition said that it appeared to be in cardo-respiratory arrest. Cardo-respiratory arrest is a term used in Japan indicating no vital signs, and generally preceding a formal certification of death by a coroner.

Eye witnesses said that as soon as Shinzo Abe was shot, he collapsed and was bleeding from the neck. Some people said that he was shot on chest from front while some suggest that he was shot from behind. However, the police has not commented yet on this full episode.

Shinzo Abe aged 67 yrs was shot by a man aged in 40’s was immediately confiscated. He had a gun which was used to shoot Mr. Abe.
