Lenovo ThinkStation P620, World’s first 64-Core Workstation

On Tuesday, Lenovo ThinkStation P620, the world’s first workstation powered by AMD‘s Ryzen Threadripper 3000 Pro series processors was introduced.

Presently, Lenovo ThinkStation P620 is also the only  64 Core workstation that supports the latest Threadripper 3000 PRO series.

Lenovo in a press statement said

The ThinkStation P620, offers unparalleled power and performance, as well as the configurability to meet each customer’s unique needs in a way that wasn’t possible until now,

The new Lenovo ThinkPad P620 supports up to 64 cores with clock speeds of 4.0 GHz, 128 lanes of PCIe 4.0 bandwidth, and 8-channel memory support.

This is advanced when compared to its previous models which featured a single-CPU system that could handle up to 18 cores. This is the highest dual-processor system that supports 56. For graphics, the new ThinkStation P620 supports up to 2 NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000 or four RTX 4000 graphics cards.

This has a storage capacity of up to 20TB and up to 512GB 3200MHz memory. It comes with a Gen 4 support for PCIe slots and M.2 storage.

The chassis itself supports up to 1TB of memory and 10GB of built-in Ethernet apart from 20TB of storage. Connectivity-wise, there are 2 USB 3.2 Gen Type-A ports, 2 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports along with Microphone and Headphone jacks in the front side.

And on the back, it consists of 4 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, 2 USB 2.0 Type-A ports, 2 PS/2 ports which is optional and that can act as keyboard and mouse connector.

Gigabit Ethernet, Audio, eSATA and Firewire connectivity is also one of the specifications of Lenovo ThinkStation P620. The workstation also features Intel Dual Band Wireless 9260 AC antenna kit. This has an optional 15-in-1 card reader (9-in-1 included), as well as a 9mm slim ODD.

Coming to the measurements of the Lenovo P620, it is a rack-mountable tower of 6.5”x18”x17.3”. The P60 is designed is a powerful workstation which is also available with a custom-designed heat sink.

Lenovo P620 ThinkStation will be a major key player in meeting the demands of creative professionals belonging to architecture, engineering, media, entertainment, game developers, 3D artists and financial services.

Though this professional workstation is likely to hit the market in the month of September this year, definitely AMD’s entry into the high-performance processor is analysed as a big and tough competing threat to Intel.
