Malaysia King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah appointed Muhyiddin Yassin as the next Prime Minister replacing interim PM Mahathir Mohamad.

The King’s announcement has shocked many in the country as Mahathir just announced that he has the support of Anwar Ibrahim‘s party. Political experts say that after negotiating with all the 222 lawmakers, the King has come to the decision of appointing the 72-year old Muhyiddin Yassin as the next Prime Minister.

Muhyiddin Yassin is currently the President of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. Mahathir Mohamad also belongs to the same party. It is known that already the party declared Muhyiddin Yassin as their next Prime Ministerial candidate. He will be sworn as the PM on Sunday.

Ironically, the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) will be brought back to power which was disgraced in the 2018 elections on corruption basis. Several UMNO leaders including ex-Prime Minister Najib Razak are facing corruption charges presently. Muhyiddin Yassin has also secured from Malay Nationalist Party which was responsible for sacking him as the deputy prime minister in the 2015 year.

The King’s decree has come to the picture as the political trauma was becoming day by day havoc for the country. The power game between the two leaders Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim has led to the resignation of the former leader on 24th February of 2020. And after finding both the leader’s political future unstable, both have again agreed to support each other. But the King of Malaysia has not trusted the reunion and announced his decree.

However, the political instability has come to an end with the King’s decision of appointing Muhyiddin Yassin as the Prime Minister.

There is no immediate reaction or statement from the two leaders – Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim on king’s announcement of appointing Muhyiddin Yassin as the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
