US president Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin met on Friday at an air base in Alaska summit but made no clear progress on Ukraine.
Both the leaders revived their personal rapport and highlighted areas of agreement. Though they announced no steps towards a ceasefire, Trump told reports :
We had an extremely productive meeting, and many points were agreed to,
There are just a very few that are left, some are not that significant, one is probably the most significant,
Look, as far as I’m concerned, there’s no deal until there’s a deal. But we did make a lot of progress.
Now, it’s really up to President Zelensky to get it done. And I would also say the European nations, they have to get involved a little bit. But it’s up to President Zelensky… And if they would like, I will be at that next meeting,
They are going to set up a meeting now between President Zelensky and President Putin and myself, I guess,
Most important thing that came from Trump advised Zelensky saying:
Gotta make a deal. Yeah. Look, Russia is a very big power, and they’re not. They’ are great soldiers.
To start with, Russian leader was allowed on Western soil since February 2022. Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Donald Trump, fond of calling himself as a master deal-maker, rolled out the red carpet for Vladimir Putin.
After an abrupt ending to 3 hours of talks, both the leaders offered warm words. Putin spoke in general terms of cooperation in a joint press conference that lasted just 12 minutes.
Putin stated:
We hope that the understanding we have reached will… pave the way for peace in Ukraine,
As Trump mused about a second meeting, Putin smiled and said in English: “Next time in Moscow.”
Many political analysts think that the summit is one sided. Putin achieved most of what he wanted. Russian president walked away with the outcomes he wanted like – no meaningful updates for Ukraine, no firm ceasefire agreement, and no new sanctions. Trump did not lose, but achieved very little.
