The world’s largest collections of online discussion boards – Yahoo Groups, launched on January 30, 2001, will be shut down by December 14, 2019.

As per the notice published in the Yahoo Group website, the shutdown process will start from October 28, 2019, itself. By December 14, 2019, the complete shut down of the website will be completed. Though the technical team will be in contact to resolve the issues related to the Yahoo Groups website, the users will not have access. This has been announced officially by the Yahoo.

Yahoo Groups acted as a hybrid between threaded Internet forums and electronic mailing lists. In simple words, it was a Web forum. Users can share and post their views as a discussion forum.

Almost the website reached a million users at a time and stood as a pioneer. Yahoo is a business Subsidiary of Verizon Media. The 25 years old Yahoo has many products like – Answers, Developer Network, Entertainment, Finance, Groups, Lifestyle, Mail, Maps, Mobile, Music, News, Research, Safety Center, Search, Search Marketing, Shopping, Small Business, Sports, Rivals.

The Yahoo Group has requested all its users to safeguard their contents as the website is shutting down. Once the date of Shutdown takes place, all the user’s contents will be deleted.

Yahoo Groups, an old version of forums, has not been updated as it should have been. The heavy competition from other social platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp had a heavy impact on its users. Because of the older look and style, Yahoo Groups have lost its customer base.

For whatever the reason may be, the 18-year old Yahoo Groups will be shut down within a few days. The company has also not elaborated on the reasons behind the closure announcement.

However, the Yahoo group technical team is into action to help out the users to sort out the issues related to their content management and safeguarding for few more days after the closure.
