In the 1st Test match played between the visitors South Africa and the hosts West Indies at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia, South Africa captured an easy victory by a huge margin.
West Indies vs South Africa can be said as one sided game right from starting. South Africa dominated West Indies in bowling as well as batting. South Africa won the match by an innings and 63 runs. The 5 day match was wrapped up in just 3 days. With this win SA is leading the two match series 1-0. Also, South Africa bagged 60 points with this win.
Mainly South African fast bowlers proved decisive in the first Test. West Indies were out for just 97 runs in their first innings. Even the sad batting saga continued in their second innings too. West Indies scored 162 runs only which is short of 62 runs for the South African 1st innings total alone.
South Africa scored 322 runs in their 1st innings with the help of Quinton de Kock’s 141 not out. South African bowler, Lungi Ngidi took 5-19 wickets haul in the first innings while Kagiso Rabada finished with 5-34 in the second innings. Anrich Nortje supported with 4-35 in the first innings and Lungi Ngidi supported with3-31 in the 2nd innings.
In the West Indies batting squad, Jason Holder was the highest scorer with 20 runs in the first innings while Roston Chase was the highest scorer in the second innings with 62 runs. Coming to the bowlers, Jason Holder took 4-75 and Jayden Seales 3-75 bowling figures in 1st innings of South African batting.
Quinton de Kock is declared as the player of the match.
Second and final Test match of the series will start from Friday in the same ground. It is a do or die situation for the hosts to win the match so that they tie the series.
