Qualcomm also unveiled its new Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 platform for augmented reality gadgets like smart glasses along with its new flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform.
The new AR2 Gen 1 platform, according to the manufacturer, has been designed from the ground up to revolutionize the head-worn glass form factor and enhance the overall spatial computing experience for a real-world/metaverse hybrid.
The business hopes that OEMs would be able to design the smallest, most effective AR glasses using the Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 SoC. The innovative chip combines a customized IP block with a multi-chip distributed computing architecture.
According to the company, the main processor now occupies a 40% smaller PCB area on the glass, and AI performance has increased by up to 2.5 times.
According to Qualcomm, this will enable OEMs to create svelte, thin smart glasses suitable for both consumer and business applications.
The AR Distributed Processing Architecture, which enables a better weight distribution and reduces the arm width on either side of the glasses, consists of an AR processor, AR co-processor, and connectivity platform.
The most recent Qualcomm AR platform supports up to 9 concurrent cameras for a user and the environment understanding and is also optimized for low motion-to-photon latency.

It also has improved perception capabilities, including a reprojection engine for a more comfortable experience, an AI accelerator to lower latency for delicate input interactions like hand tracking or 6DoF, and a dedicated hardware acceleration engine that is said to improve user motion tracking and localization.
The Qualcomm FastConnectTM 7800 connectivity system, which supports the fastest Wi-Fi 7 technology, is used by the AR2 Gen 1’s connectivity platform.
Furthermore, the FastConnect XR Software Suite 2.0 is built inside it. The business claims that it allows for improved management of XR data to decrease jitter, increase delay, and prevent undesired interference.
