Tension flared along the Assam-Mizoram Border after 8 farmer’s huts were set ablaze by unidentified miscreants. Assam-Mizoram border tension turned to violence.
As per the official reports at least 6 Assam policemen got killed during the clashes on Monday. Another 50 police personnel got admitted into Silchar Medical College and Hospital for treatment with injuries.
It is to be noted that the clashes broke out after the Union Home Minister Amith Shah met all the Northeastern states Cheif ministers in Shillong just 2 days back.
There were reports of attacks on government vehicles and firing in the border areas. The chief ministers of the two states blamed each other for the ongoing tensions. Both the chief ministers took Twitter as the platform for the blames.
Here are the Tweets of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga:
I am deeply pained to inform that six brave jawans of @assampolice have sacrificed their lives while defending constitutional boundary of our state at the Assam-Mizoram border.
My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

Innoncent couple on their way back to Mizoram via Cachar manhandled and ransacked by thugs and goons.
How are you going to justify these violent acts?@dccachar @cacharpolice @DGPAssamPolice pic.twitter.com/J9c20gzMZQ

Clear evidences are now beginning to emerge that unfortunately show that Mizoram Police has used Light Machine Guns (LMG) against personnel of @assampolice. This is sad, unfortunate and speaks volumes about the intention and gravity of the situation.

Meanwhile, Union Home minister Amit Shah had urged all sides to resolve border issues urgently and amicably. It is to be noted that the two states are important for the ruling party in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The situation along the Mizoram-Assam border has been on the boil since June-end.
