North Korea & South Korea Agree To Rebuild Ties

In a historic move, two Koreas exchange letters and agree to rebuild ties. Moon and Kim have agreed to restore and improve ties.

North Korean President Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in agreed to restore suspended communication channels and improve ties. Both Korean leaders met in South Korea’s Peace House at the border village of Panmunjom in the Demilitarized Zone.

This can be termed as a big breakthrough for both Koreas in restoring peace in the region. Also, this can be a stalemate in nuclear talks.

Since April, both the Korean leaders were involved in the peace process by exchanging letters for restoring inter-Korean relations.

On Monday, in a statement by the South Korean president’s office said –

The two leaders agreed to restore mutual trust as soon as possible.

As a move to restore peace, the two sides reopened hotlines. it is to be remembered that the hotlines were suspended in June 2020 that counts more than a year.

It is to be noted that the move came on the 68th anniversary of the armistice agreement that ended fighting in the 1950-53 Korean War.

Actually, the communication between the two Korean countries became worst due to a dispute that culminated during Kim’s regime in North Korea.

Earlier in 2018, North Korean leader Kim and South Korean leader Moon held summits over the course of five months between April and September to set up a communication channel.

But later North Korea accused South Korea of violating the agreement by allowing the launches of balloons carrying anti-Pyongyang messages and suspended communication between the two.

Now, as both the Koreas have stepped up to initiate peace, the region may be barred from the fear of war. The United States has not commented about the latest developments between the two Koreas.
