Indian Left-handed batsman, Suresh Raina has followed the footsteps of his best friend as well as his teammate, MS Dhoni and announced his retirement.
As many know, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina are best friends on and off the fields. On Indian Independence Day, both the friends have decided to quit the International cricket of all forms (Test, ODI & T20I).
Though Suresh Raina may not have had a long International career like his friend Dhoni. he has few achievements that will make him proud as well as satisfied when he looks back. A few of them are :
- Raina is the first Indian batsman to score a ton in T20I’s.
- He also bagged the credit to become the first batsman to score a ton in all the three formats of the game.
- India’s youngest captain (at the age of 23) to Captain India in T20I’s.
His career statistics reveal his journey. He has played 18 Test matches, 226 ODI’s and 78 T20I’s for India. He has a total of 7,988 runs on his name with 768 Test runs, 5,615 ODI runs and 1,605 T20I runs. He scored 7 centuries and 48 half-centuries in all the three formats combinedly.

With the highest total of 120 runs in Test Cricket format and 116 (not Out) score in One Day Internationals, Raina has scored a 101 knock, in the short format of the cricket, T20’s.
He is not only successful as a batsman, but also a bowler. He claimed 62 wickets in total. He took 13 wickets in Test cricket with his career-best figures of 2/1 (wickets/runs).In ODI’s he has got figures of 3/34 as his best. In T20I’s he has got 2/26.
As a fielder too, Raina has got a good name. He took 23 catches in Test, 102 catches in ODIs and 42 catches in T20I’s. However, Raina was not in the Indian squad for quite some time from now. His retirement was expected as the selectors were not interested to consider his come back into the International squad anymore.
